The Twestival Atlanta team is thrilled to announce that we will be supporting Nicholas House for this year's Twestival Local. 

Nicholas House is a not for profit agency that operates a transitional housing shelter in the Grant Park area of Atlanta, GA and an apartment-based program, known as H2H (Homeless to Homes), that places families in rental units.

Since first opening their doors in 1982, Nicholas House has helped over 2000  homeless families attain self sufficiency.  Through individualized case management, adult education & training and powerful youth programs that work to stop the cycle  of poverty, Nicholas House has been able to tackle the root causes of a family’s homelessness, so they never become homeless again.

A few impressive facts:

- Nicholas House is one of the few agencies on Georgia certified as a Best Practice Model by the Georgia Coalition to End Homelessness.

- 70% of families in the program for greater than 90 days become employed or are enrolled in a training program working towards a living wage.

Nearly 30% of children who participate in the youth services program are
on the honor roll at any given time.

The Need:

- Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.

 - On any given night in Atlanta there are 1,200 families without a home.

 -There are over 1,000 families currently on the waiting list for one of Nicholas House's programs.

Nicholas House recoginizes that every one of the families they assist has a unique
reason(s) for being a part of it's program.  Their adult education and training programs help define goals and provide educational support.  Nicholas
House’s 24 course series of workshops cover everything from resume writing and debt resolution to computer training and parenting skills.
 

What your donation means:

Less than $20 a day ($16.70) provides a warm bed, hot meals, individualized counseling and case management and  afterschool care for one parent and child.  Imagine that?! For the price of the average meal dining out, you're able to play a transformative role in the lives of both a parent and a child.  And what's more?  Nicholas House just works.  Their success rates year after year and the testimonies from former residents (who many times end up donating their time & resources to Nicholas House post "graduation") re-affirm that your donation will be used wisely and effectively.
