A Thousand Tears: A Gala Fundraiser to Help Heal Sri Lanka
Over the course of the last three decades, a teardrop-shaped island in the Indian Ocean—home to the organizers of this event—has witnessed a brutal conflict that brought untold misery to thousands of its people.
'A Thousand Tears' is a phrase used to represent the countless tears that have been shed throughout this period of unrest, and the tears that continue to be shed for the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently being held in camps in the Northern region of Sri Lanka.
By traveling to the island and conducting our own independent research, we jointly came to the conclusion that the best way to help these war-affected people and to help heal the wounds of Sri Lanka's decades-long war would be to provide aid to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), an internationally respected medical humanitarian organization.
MSF has been conducting excellent relief work in the emergency hospitals near these camps, under difficult conditions. Their work has included providing basic medical care, treating conflict-related trauma and malnutrition, and even providing vital food supplies (see latest news from the field in attached link).
Based on its work to date, we strongly believe in MSF’s ability to continue along the same path and provide much needed humanitarian assistance to the IDPs of Sri Lanka. But MSF’s critical work can only continue if they have the necessary support.
Please join us in showing your support for this worthwhile cause.
