BULLY PAWS PIT BULL PATRIOTS INC
Here's what out volunteer Susie writes...I accepted a Pit mix stray from a friend of mine who found it in her neighborhood on Friday evening (June 10th). This little guy is sweet as
pie so he was hard to resist. The problem is, he was injured.
I took him to the vet we're using up here in Sterling Park to get cleaned up and to see what they could do with his wounds. He had a laceration on his left flank and his eye was swollen nearly closed and oozing. It looked to me, also, that the eyeball had that 'opaque' look like he might be blind in the eye. When the vet called me on Saturday afternoon to let me know what he thought the appropriate treatment plan was, I agreed to it and told him to go ahead.
The wound on his flank needed to be closed so that it would heal properly. If that were his only injury they could have doped him up and done it under local anesthesia. Problem is, the eye wound needed to be treated as well, and there's no good way to do that with local anesthetic -- so I agreed to general anesthetic. And while he's under, let's go ahead and neuter him too... what the heck. The vets debrided the flank wound and sutured him up so that it will go ahead and heal. The eye wound was a little more difficult. The vet said if left untreated the eyelids wouldn't be able to keep the eyeball properly moistened which would leave the dog would be susceptible to corneal ulcers and abrasions. They were able to close the laceration well enough that they feel the end result will be very good. Sadly, though, whatever caused the laceration also damaged this poor guy's eye and the vet says that 'prognosis for sight to return in that eye is very low'.
So... we have an 18-24 month old (now) neutered Pit mix who weighs 44 lbs. He is up-to-date on all of his shots. He is white with brindle patches and I have started calling him 'Woody' (since he was found along the W&OD trail; 'Woody' sounds kinda like W&OD if you say if fast!).
The vet bill that still needs to be covered for this sweet boy is $600. Any help would be appreciated...as always your support is greatly appreciated!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
