Barbara Runs Chicago Marathon 2009 For African Orphans

It is easy for me to become overwhelmed when I see the needs of children around the world as portrayed by those info commercials about poverty. Running the Chicago Marathon 2007  and the Chicago Half Marathon 2007 helped me fulfill the desire to help African orphans and train my body toward strength and health.

My personal battle is combating the effects of Type 2 Diabetes. The training, the camaraderie, the pain...it was worth the struggle to see lives changed...even mine.

The dawn amidst the beauty of the Chicago lakefront is an inspiring thing to see as you train with other runners new and old. "Good job!" encourage fellow runners along the path. "Well done, good and faithful servant," says God as you work for a treasure that rewards impoverished children now with provisions like clean water, health care, nutritious food, education and economic opportunities and you later while you experience the joy of knowing that your efforts are truly changing young lives.

World Vision works to tackle the root causes of poverty by working with children, families, and their communities. This is why I run for  Team World Vision. Losing 27 pounds and 4 dress sizes wasn't bad either.

Please support me by making a one-time tax-deductible donation. It all goes to Team World Vision and our Armitage Church Team's money is going toward Aids Frontline Caregivers in Africa.
