This fundraiser was started in honor of every child who has been diagnosed with diabetes around the world, but was inspired by two people: Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, who announced publicly that he had type 1 diabetes in March 2007, a year and a half after being diagnosed; and Björn van Gerwen, a very special and important person in my life, who found out that he had type 1 diabetes when he was only eight years old.

All of the money raised on this page will go directly to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation, a terrific non-profit organization that we fully support. You can read more about their mission and journey in diabetes research at www.diabetes.org.

In addition, the Jonas Brothers started a foundation called Change For The Children, an organization that obtains donations for five important charities and foundations that brothers Kevin, Joe, and Nick find especially important. There is currently no way to donate directly to their foundation, as they leave it up to you to donate to their sponsored charities. "YOU decide. YOU donate." is their motto. We can all create change for the better, but many of us don't realize it. The power of one is very powerful indeed, and there is absolutely no reason you should believe that you can't make a difference by yourself. Please donate.
