Dear Friend,

Thank you for considering a pledge for the P-O-E-T-H-O-N at Five Points. Youth Speaks Nashville and our writing compatriots plan to perform poetry for five (5) consecutive hours on Monday, July 6th from 4:00p to 9:00p. We welcome your pledge for every minute that the poet community can perform consecutively on that day. A pledge of $1 per minute would amount to $300 (5 hours x 60 minutes) if we are able to perform for the entire five (5) hours . . .

We are raising money to send a team of poets from the Mid South to compete at an international poetry slam in Chicago this summer. In addition to supporting this team of poets, you are helping build an organization which models literacy and places poet mentors in area schools and youth organizations. Youth Speaks poets have performed in the White House, in the Tennessee State Senate, and on national television. Spoken word poetry organizations impact thousands of teen lives in cities across the United States every year. Young poets and writers in Nashville and Middle Tennessee deserve the same opportunities as their counterparts from other major cities.

Please join us at I Dream of Weenie and the Pied Piper Creamery on July 6th to show your support and receive inspiration and hope from these young voices. All pledges are due on this day as the poets leave for Chicago the following week. Thank you for helping to show young people that our society values and acknowledges literacy and positive accomplishments of youth.
