On May 27th I will be running the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon along with classmates, faculty and friends in support of Steps to Wellness. What is Steps to Wellness, you might ask? Well read on!
Steps to Wellness is a rehabilitation program that serves the unique needs of cancer survivors finishing therapy. After initially surviving cancer, a survivor still has many unmet physical and psychological needs. They must regain confidence after fighting such a traumatic disease. They must restore physical and emotional strength after coping with months of chemo and radiation. They must also begin an exercise program in an effort to prevent the cancer from returning. Steps to Wellness serves to meet these needs by offering physical therapy evaluations, individual exercise prescriptions, educational workshops focused on survivorship issues and both individual and group exercise supervision by trained medical staff.
