In Memory of Elaine Rendon
Elaine Rendon
1936-2009
Dear Friends and Family,
Our mother, Elaine Rendon, passed away in the early evening of February 26, 2009 at Stanford Hospital. She died seven months after diagnosis and was a patient of oncologist Dr. George A. Fisher of the Stanford Cancer Center. His kindness and tender demeanor helped her absorb and accept the diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer.
The wonderful nurses at Stanford Hospital F Ground (especially Jessica and Maureen) were there for us until her last breath, as were Father Hester, Rabbi Lori Klein and their entire spiritual team. Holly Gautier of the Stanford Cancer Center helped in so many ways as did Glenn Mackney at the Helen Salzman Boutique in the Stanford Cancer Center where we would go for solace and a good cry. Mary Kay of Guest Services gave my mother dignity and respect in her last days. The Los Altos Courtyard Marriott was my mother's "home away from home" while she was receiving treatment at Stanford Hospital and Sherrie Carreno and her loving staff treated us like family. We are thankful for all their care and support.
Our mother was so brave and wanted to live especially for her grandchildren Amy, Sara and Isabella whom she loved dearly. We are going to miss our road trips to Napa Valley and vacations in Europe that she so enjoyed with us as a family. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and moved with her parents to Venice, CA during high school. Later she became a registered nurse working in all areas of nursing. She was a longtime supporter of the Old Globe Theatre of San Diego as well as the Zoological Society of San Diego. San Francisco was her other adopted city and it is fitting that she passed in the town that she loved. She is survived by her children Alicia Atun(Jonathan), Betsy Sadegh(Anoush) and Richard Rendon(Alice) and her former husband Fred Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband Fernando Rendon.
This journey we experienced with our mother will be a part of us for the rest of our lives. We are determined more than ever to support Pancreatic Cancer research and its genetic components (our grandmother also passed from this disease) so that this cancer can be detected early and a cure can be found.
Thank you,
The Family of Elaine Rendon
