The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana is located in one of the more depressed areas of the country, Gary, Indiana. We receive many abused and neglected animals. One of the animals that we received was "Legend". "Legend" was kept in a garage with a much larger dog called "Miso". "Miso" would not allow "Legend" to eat her food. When she tried to get to her food, "Miso" would attack her. She became thinner and weaker, until she could barely walk. Her face was abscessed with dog bites and there was a large chunk of flesh torn out from her neck.
A neighbor took pity on "Legend" and talked to the owner (who was busy raising 11 children). The owner, after much pleading, gave "Legend" up.
That afternoon we received "Legend". She could barely walk and was skin and bone. She was a Pit Bull that should have weighed at least 55lbs. but instead she weighed 20lbs. But through all of her neglect she remained a sweet dog....we knew that she needed a second chance.
She was taken to the vet where she remained for 1 week and then was put into a foster home. With love and good care she rallied. She gained weight and is now in a wonderful home with the love she so much deserves. By the way.....we changed here name from "Legend" to "Hope"....because that is what she had once she came into our shelter.
We receive many animals like Hope. This is why we started "Hope's Fund" for other animals like Hope. Because of the economy, the number of animals that are coming into our shelter has risen drastically but the number of donations has gone down...way down. The only way we can help animals like Hope was to set up a specific fund....we call "Hope's Fund." If you would like to see the after pictures of "Hope"...go to our web site at www.millercritters.net
Please donate to "Hope's Fund" so that we can carry on our humane work. Thank you.
