Bianca's Carlsbad Marathon Run for IMC

IMC needs your help.........lets do this together :)

Even though I have been active in creating awareness on the atrocities in Darfur, IMC's assessment in Gaza shows a need for medical and surgical equipment, as well as longer-term mental health and psychosocial support. (IMC) has activated its regional response team and has secured emergency health kits for the people of Gaza in response to the growing humanitarian crisis that has resulted from the conflict between Hamas and Israeli forces.

I  will be participating in the Carlsbad Half Marathon to raise money for this cause. I felt maybe there was another way to bring the physical, emotional, and financial resources necessary to help those who have suffered more than two decades of civil wars, genocide, and especially those suffering from this Humanitarian Crisis occuring in Gaza.

On January 25, 2009  I will be running 13.5 miles to raise funds for the International Medical Corps .   Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help me reach and exceed my goal of $150.  Thank you for all your love and support!

Many thanks!

CRISIS IN GAZA

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that in Gaza since the beginning of the Israeli military operation on December 27, 2008, 784 people have died and approximately 3,200 have been injured. It is estimated that more than 13,000 people have been displaced and life-saving medical supplies cannot reach those in need. In addition, four Israelis have been killed and 46 injured by Hamas rocket attacks.

IMC staff report impaired access to clean water, electricity, and sewage disposal combined with the overcrowding in areas of refuge, carry grave risks for the outbreak and spread of communicable illness. Hospitals are overwhelmed, many seriously wounded patients are in need of referral or medical evacuation, and health staff – many working 24 hour shifts -- are exhausted. According to the World Health Organization, the health services in Gaza are on the point of collapse if steps to support and protect them are not taken immediately.

All proceeds will directly support U.S. based humanitarian aid organization, International Medical Corps' (IMC), improve the health and well-being of thousands affected.   All donations are tax deductible.

Sponsored programs currently include, but are not limited to: gender-based violence prevention, nutritional and mental health care programs.

Empower Others
Representing more than 80% the world’s refugees, women and children suffer most in emergencies, yet they hold the key to a healthy, peaceful future because of their resilience and determination.  Both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, neighboring countries in central Africa, have suffered more than two decades of civil wars that have left millions dead and even greater numbers homeless.  None have suffered more than the women and children. Tens of thousands of women have been neglected, murdered, abducted, brutally raped, tortured, and overall forgotten. Congo Wars have claimed more lives than any conflict since the end of World War II, yet the crisis has received little attention outside of central Africa.

From Relief to Self-Reliance, International Medical Corps is empowering women to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future for their children.

Some of the world’s worst acts against humanity have taken place here, especially against women and children. Peace, change, and stability can only come to these regions with a vested interest from the global community.
