Welcome to my fundraising page for the Best Friends Animal Society!
On October 1st, 2013, as part of my Biking for Animals campaign, I will be starting a cross-country bicycle tour to raise money and awareness for the Best Friends Animal Society. The tour will last for three months and will consist of one 60-mile ride in each of the 48 continental states. At the end of the tour, which starts in Vermont and ends in Texas, I will have ridden about 3,000 miles in total.
I am doing this because I find it unacceptable that although we are a nation of pet lovers, there are nearly 4 million healthy cats and dogs euthanized in shelters every year.
The Best Friends Animals Society (based in Kanab, Utah) have been working to help shelter animals here in the US for nearly 30 years, and have started a lot of initiatives to make this happen. These include organizing adoption events, running adoption centers, developing and (financially) supporting model programs across the country designed to save the lives of pets, setting up and supporting TNR programs, and many more. They also run one of the country's largest no-kill animal shelters, a testament to the idea that a no-kill solution is indeed possible. Thanks to the efforts of organizations such as theirs, there has been a reduction in animals killed in shelters over the past decade, an increase in the number of no-kill shelters, and more public awareness about the steps one needs to take to end the killing of healthy animals. I would like to help them to keep making advances in the fight for these innocent animal lives.
Please help by donating whatever you can!
