MELANOMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION
NYC 2008 Marathon
November 2, 2008
Greetings friends and family!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. The race is coming up and I'm really excited to be running in New York City, one of the world's premier marathons. Training has been going really well and I'm feeling in great shape (fingers crossed!)
But the more important race to fight melanoma is my real reason for running. This is my second marathon on behalf of the Melanoma Research Foundation (the photo is of our family just after the Philly marathon) and I could not think of a more worthy foundation! They sponsor potentially life-saving research into melanoma and have also supported their cause by sponsoring races and runners.
My mom died of a malignant melanoma in 1994 at the young age of 53. Before she was diagnosed, I had never heard about this form of skin cancer. It seemed such a senseless death as she was an otherwise perfectly healthy person who had great longevity in her family. But this is often the case with melanoma as it strikes many young people in the prime of their lives. And on a more optimistic note, my father-in-law was diagnosed last year and is recovering really well thanks in part to being involved in a study related to this cancer.
So, I hope you will donate to this great cause. Rest assured that all of the money you give goes directly to the foundation. And with this easy, online space, you can make your donation in less than 5 minutes. Please help as many are in need. And if you have a friend or relative that is a victim of melanoma, please pass along their name so I can commemorate them on my raceday shirt. I will carry their memory for the 26.2 miles.
See you on the road!
