Dear Friends and Family, 

On June 10, 2012, I will participating in the 9th Annual Sharon Timlin 5k Race/Walk to Cure ALS. This event raises money towards finding a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive and fatal illness that attached motor neurons. When these neurons die, the ability of the brain to control muscle movement is lost. This results in paralysis and is terminal usually in three to five years.

This year I am running this road race in memory of my mother, Joey Wechsler, and my cousin, Susan (Weitz) Gold, who both died of ALS at too young an age. When remembering my mother's struggle with the debilitating effects of this disease, I feel compelled to run in support of other ALS victims, and to raise awareness and money so that others won't have to suffer such a fate. I hope you will join me in either attending the event or donating whatever you can. Last year I had the joy of being joined by my two sons, Michael and Stephen, and future daughter-in-law, Megan, as well as several of my son's friends. It was truly an honor to run along with family and friends, honoring my mother, who they unfortunately never had a chance to meet or know.

My personal fundraising goal is $1,000. Every dollar that I raise will be directed to UMass Medical Center where Dr. Robert Brown and his colleagues are doing groundbreaking research toward a cure for this devastating disease. All donations are tax deductible and company matching contributions are highly appreciated.

In these economic times, I know how difficult it is to donate to every worthy charity. Last year you were all so generous in helping me achieve and pass my goal. You all endeared yourself to me for contributing whatever you could. I can't thank you enough. Every dollar donated will truly bring us closer to a cure.
