Hello Everyone,
The fight against Leukemia and Blood Cancer continues and I am determined that we’re going to beat these deadly diseases! Since my diagnosis in 2006 and my Stem Cell Transplant in May of 2008, I am constantly approached by people or made aware of people dealing with these deadly forms of Cancer. The stories that I hear fuel my passion to keep raising funds to help find a cure for these forms of Cancer and to also help people and their families that have already been diagnosed cope with this tough time in their life.
My foundation the B.J. Green Strikeout Leukemia Foundation has raised over $20,000 in the short 4 years that it has been in existence. We have done some AMAZING things with the funds that have been raised. We have donated money for Cancer Research, provided money to help families with the daily costs of having someone in the hospital for an extended amount of time, and also helped a family from my hometown of Gardendale, Alabama who had a daughter fighting Cancer.
All of the things the foundation has been able to do is because of the hard work of a lot VERY close friends of mine, and most importantly the generosity of all the people that have donated over the years. It truly has been a TEAM effort and we couldn’t have done it without everyone involved.
My journey since the Transplant has taken me to Georgia Southern University where I am the pitching coach. Since arriving here at Georgia Southern, I have a new member to my team well actually 2 new members (she has a beautiful son). I have met an incredible woman that is going to be joining me in my next fundraising venture. Jessica Aliffi is going to run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon with me on January 8, 2011. She shares my passion for trying to find a cure for these deadly forms of Cancer, and to help families who have already been affected.
Our training is on-going and as part of our training we will be running the Savannah Bridge Run on December 4, 2010.
Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with some form of a blood cancer. And, Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
We would love for you to help us fund Blood Cancer research. So, we can strike these diseases out for good. Every little bit can help so if it’s only $5 dollars no amount is insignificant, because it could be that little bit that helps make a major breakthrough.
