Personal Story

Hi, my name is Blair Hagelgans. I have Chiari, Syringomyelia and tethered cord. I also suffer from seizures and daily head, neck, and back pain. I have missed a lot of school because of all my health problems. My mom, Christine, also has Chiari. It is hard for her to take care of me and herself. I also have my dad, Bill, and my sister, Paige. I am in 10th grade. My sister is in her 3nd year of college. I have had 1 brain surgery in 2005 and 2 back surgeries in 2006 and 2008. I am not allowed to play contact sports and I have to have someone with me at all times because of my seizures. I can't do as many things as my friends, so sometimes I feel left out. Most people don't know that I am different until they get to know me. I am embarresed when we are doing something that I can't do, and then I have to tell them the reason why I can't do things. It's annoying to have to explain things over and over again. I am under so much pressure these days that I wish I could forget all about it and have a normal life for once. I wish I could live like a normal child and many others wish the same.  I am applying for a service dog for my seizures. I participate in many fundraisers and the conferences ASAP sponsers. There is no cure for Chiari & Syrinomyelia at this time. Please donate now because we need to find a cure to get rid of peoples pain. I know that I want to live a life without pain everyday.
