Dear Fans of Special Olympics Montana,
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who sponsored me to go “Over the Edge” for the benefit of Special Olympics Montana on August 23. This fundraiser was enormously successful thanks to folks like you and many other individuals and businesses. With your support I was able to raise $3,445!
You should know that 85 “edgers” rappelled down the face of Montana’s tallest building, the First Interstate Bank Tower in Billings (19 stories/265’). While pledges are still being collected, our unaudited figures indicate that we will have raised more than $100,000 from this event. Thank YOU very much for helping achieve this goal!
To see several photos of me going over the edge, scroll to the bottom of this email. I had the pleasure of rappelling twice. Once on our “media day”, the day before the official event with Ed Garding, President/CEO of First Interstate BancSystems. The second time, I went Over the Edge with Chester athlete Stacey Johnston (yes I’m wearing a very loud pair of spandex tights)!
People of all shapes, sizes and phobias (chief among them the fear of heights) took up the challenge and rappelled down the building. Among them included 3 Special Olympics athletes; an 83 year old grandmother who captured the media’s attention (see link to story below); and a nun in her early-70’s from St. Vincent Healthcare.
If you’d like to see the many photos taken of “edgers” going Over the Edge visit our website at www.somt.org. Then click on “SmugMug” (left-hand corner above the athlete on the soccer field). Then click on the “2012” galleries. Then click “Over the Edge”.
