Well, in recent years, I've returned to flute-playing and to daily practice.  Even some lessons!  It is just a delight.  On the left...  I had been playing just over a year.  The occasion was a family visit to Baltimore not long after our move to Newtown, PA.  I stayed with the Baker family... their home on Melrose Avenue had been ours until just the prior August!  Tom and I were new campers at Mrs. C's Junior Conservatory that summer.

Just a month ago I acquired a new instrument, one with fingering that differs just slightly from the "standard" flute.  Ahead for the month of May is some very intense work to retrain a few fingers, and also improve on dexterity generally. 

I will certainly "invent" - if not compose - some finger excercises to meet my own challenges, as well as explore new and familiar "daily exercises" that move through all keys.  So the opportunity to be challenged by the encouragement of friends contributing to Walden's current fundraising effort seemed fortuitous.  The goal: playing at a "higher level" by the end of the month!

That Walden School exists as such an authentic extension of what Grace Cushman accomplished during our day is an amazing accomplishment.  I hope that everyone who experienced the JC phenomenon can visit Dublin for a reunion, or attend one of the upcoming public Forums and other gatherings being planned by the school through "Hand-Over-Hand".  And, for sure DO visit the website!
