Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! You know of my personal commitment to ending the use of captial punishment in Texas. I am asking you to please help me in this effort. Together with the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (TCADP), I am using this web based method to raise funds for the organziation.
Earlier this year, the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, of which TCADP is an affiliate, launched Rachel’s Fund. This national campaign recognizes the continuing need to broaden the base of support for abolition and break the cycle of violence in our society. Rachel’s Fund is named for, and inspired by, the life and work of the late abolitionist and activist Rachel King and by thousands of families of murder victims.
TCADP is piloting the Race to Heal Initiative, an online fundraising drive that is part of Rachel’s Fund. Donations generated by the Race to Heal Initiative will support our efforts to build bridges to communities that have been impacted by violence and, in particular, to reach out to murder victim family members.
We have had some significant recent success in our work here in Texas, including having a bill to abolish the death penalty heard in committee this past legislative session. Of course, we have more work to do. Most assuredly the tide is changing, both across the nation and here in Texas: two states have ended capital punishment in the past two years and juries in Texas are returning fewer death sentences.
As the sign that I am holding in the picture on the left says, yes, we do remember those who are the victims of violent crime, but taking the life of another person does little good. It only brings more deaths and pain.
