MR. HOLLANDS OPUS FOUNDATION

Big Beat 2010- Portland OR Portland,  Oregon

Oregon Big Beat Fund Raising Page

THE OREGON BIG BEAT NOVEMBER 7, 2010

Mark your calendar! Rhythm Traders is organizing the first annual Oregon Big Beat which will be held on Sunday November 7th, 2010 in Portland and will be the largest ever, gathering of drummers in Oregon. The Big Beat will occur simultaneously in 15 cities across North America, with proceeds going to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to bring instruments to our local schools.

Billed as the world’s largest multi-city drum set event, last year’s Big Beat drew 1202 drummers and about 3500 spectators in 11 cities and raised $62,000 for charity. The Oregon Big Beat will be a fun-filled day of percussion, with clinics, performances, product giveaways, raffles, celebrity drummers, and a World’s Fastest Drummer contest. This will also be the largest mass-drumming performance ever attempted. Here's your chance to participate in this world record event will be at 2:45PM when all of the drummers in each of the 15 cities play the same groove in unison. This feat will be achieved through a video internet connection, with the director in each city following the conductor in Seattle.

The Oregon Big Beat will bring together hundreds of drummers including drumset, drum corps, orchestral, African-Latin-Brazilian-Taiko… from beginners to teachers to gigging pros, all for one great cause… our schools.

On November 7, 2010 we have Non -Stop performances from Chata Addy, Lions of Batucada, Heritage Drumline, Don Worth II, Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers, Hough Foundation Youth Escola de Samba, Jwalin Dholakia, Al-Arwah, Sankara, Bulls & Bears, Sebe Kan, Samba Gata, Drum Lords, Rene Ormae-Jarmer, Rick McNutt. More to be confirmed.

As a grand finale to our event, the Oregon Big Beat will feature the world premier of Oregon Music Hall of Fame Inductee, Bobby Torres’ original percussion piece entitled Convergence II, featuring many of Portland’s professional drummers. Sit back and enjoy a piece of drumming history. This super-group of local pros includes Bobby Torres, Mel Brown, Carl Smith, Israel Annoh, Brian Davis, Don Worth II, Brad Boynton, Mario Sandoval, Chata Addy, Carlton Jackson, Caton Lyles, James Travers, Nick Gefroh, V, & Marty Velez.

We are always looking for volunteers and board members who want to be a part of this effort. We want to make this a fun annual event that drummers look forward to, while simultaneously generating money for our schools. We have been guaranteed by the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation that money raised at our local event will stay in our community and be given to a local school (s).

We will need volunteers in the following areas:
Corporate Sponsorship & Fundraising, Marketing, Registration, Artist Liaison, Show Production, Charity Coordinator, Tech (sound, video), Student Reps. Ideas? Can you help?
