There will be a two mile walk on November 12th at Fred G Bond Metro Park: Step Forward to Cure TSC!
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs.
I was diagonsed with TSC in 2008 when i was 20 years old. They found the tumors on my kidney's during an ultrasound for my galblatter. After many more tests they found the tumor in my brain, and just this year have found the tumor in my eye. Although on the outside you could never tell i have TSC i struggle with it every singke day, and now I'm turning my struggle into something positive by spreading the word which will hopefully help to one day find a cure! I am so very thankful for the team of doctors that keep me healthy and keep checking my children, even more thankful that so far they are clear of TSC and its devastating effects!
At least two children born each day will have tuberous sclerosis complex. Current estimates place tuberous sclerosis complex-affected births at one in 6,000. Nearly 1 million people worldwide are known to have TSC, with approximately 50,000 in the United States. There are many undiagnosed cases due to the obscurity of the disease and the mild form symptoms may take in some people.
TSC is as common as ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) but virtually unknown by the general population.
