Brenda Ohama's Fundraising Page
Hello my name is Brenda and I'm a Veterinary Technician at the Hawaiian Humane Society. Although it's still very difficult, I would like to share my personal story with you.....
14 years ago, when an individual surrendered a 4 to 5 week old male puppy with a birth deformity that rendered him only limited use of his left forelimb. With his physical difference, he had been singled out and abandoned. I fostered him, then eventually adopted him. I named him Booboo.
With each passing day, he effortlessly captured my heart with his intelligence and his sweet disposition. Booboo never truly thought of himself as being "handicapped". He was completely comfortable with his uniqueness. Booboo possessed the purest of hearts and even later when life challenged him with yet another hurdle in the form of an injury, lending to the complete removal of his already compromised limb, he took it all in stride. His inspirational spirit and zest for life never faltering. In fact most of those who made Booboo's acquaintance for the first time, would never have realized he was "less" a limb had it not been for the little tell tale "bounce" in his step.
Then on May 14, 2010 when the deteriorating effects of age had taken their toll on his tired and weary body, painfully I granted Booboo my one final gift of love and gave him peace.
I would like to thank the Hawaiian Humane Society for bringing Booboo and I together in an unforgettable chapter in my life. I will forever cherish the precious memories of the special times we shared together.
