Shelton Family Fundraising Page
UPDATE: We are here in Pittsburgh along with 120 or so of our closest Team Alabama friends that YOU helped send here. Opening ceremonies were last night, and we kicked off the athletics with a 5K run this morning. We walked, Hunter ran (27:34). For some pictures of the team here in Pittsburgh that is (hopefully) updated regularly, click on http://picasaweb.google.com/bshelton69/USTransplantGames2008
UPDATE: If you want to learn a little about the character and courage of the people your donation will help send to the games, please check the following Athlete Profile http://teamalabama.wordpress.com/2008/06/23/athlete-profile-austin-ledbetter/
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
We are the Shelton Family. We are seven strong, and we are headed to the 2008 Transplant Games in Pittsburgh, PA in July.
We are part of Team Alabama, affiliated with the National Kidney Foundation of Alabama, a 501c(3) charitable institution. The US Transplant Games are like the Olympics for transplant patients, their families and donor families. The games are a celebration of life and they offer the transplant recipient and family a chance to honor their donor and donor family. Each of the competitors have received solid organ or bone marrow transplants. Donor families participate in the games by encouraging and cheering on the competitors. It will cost Team Alabama approximately $250,000 to make it to the games.
We are a donor family. The picture here is our Delaney. In the spring of 2004, at the age of four, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A week later, she died suddenly during a biopsy. She was able to be an organ donor, saving the lives of three people. It was a devastating time for our family, but seeing the life-changing benefits that organ donation has had on our recipients has helped us through it. Because of this, we have become a part of Team Alabama, a group of people pulling for each other, many of them with a second chance at life.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. All donations are tax deductible. If you would rather not donate through the site, checks can be made payable to the NKF of Alabama and mailed to 811 Macon County Rd, Cecil, AL 36013
Please feel free to send this link (www.firstgiving.com/sheltonfamily) to whoever you like. Whether you donate or not, please consider being an organ donor. If you choose to do so, please tell someone in your family of your decision. Many thanks for your support.
