Knitting for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Knitting for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

My name is Brittany Roop.
I am a 16 year old girl living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which is a genetic tissue disorder.
Affecting mainly skin, joints, and vasular places.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome known as EDS is mainly a lack of collagen.
Collagen serves as a protein which basically keeps all your joints and other tissues together.
Now that would explain the dislocations! :)
I try to be in high spirits at all times because its hard living with this disorder, waking up every day in chronic pain.
Sometimes I get very upset about it, feeling as if no one understands.
I had dreams of playing college basketball but now with my chronic dislocations those dreams have now shattered but I am wanting to pick up Floral Design.
I like to knit in my freetime.
I also can play guitar, clarinet, bass clarinet and a little piano.
People say that I am very good at sketching and painting.
I`m also in 4-H. I've showed sheep and I loved it but I had to give that up with my arms being the way that they are.
I love learning about genealogy and about my ancestors.
My family means the world to me. They are the ones the support me the most out of everyone I know... I am wanting to go into the ministry.I go to church every sunday and  I am going to teach Vacation  Bible School!

Why did I decide to knit?
Where I live its kind of a chilly place and no one likes a cold noggin! :)
So I am making hats to sell which will be used as donation money and I am also accepting donations of anykind.
    Please remember every penny counts.
I really want to spread the word about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
I was diagnosed about a year ago. Pretty late for my age.
Its hard to deal with but I want to spread the word incase people like myself having the same problems I did wont have to get needless surgeries and can get the RIGHT treatment.
So please leave a donation.
Small or Large.
 It does not matter.
  Again, EVERY PENNY COUNTS! <33

My Goal is to raise $5,000 dollars.

Please pass this to everyone you know so I can reach my dream.

09/14/07- Update:
Hey everyone. Sorry I have not updated in a while. Things have been hectic since I started back up mainstream into public school. So far so good, other then I am getting very tired in the middle of the school day. Homework seems harder for me cause I have much more of a workload and brain fog occures more often. But it's great being able to socialize again and stuff not to mention, I have a new boyfriend named steve..who means everything to me.. :}My shoulders have had their moments and my mom has already had to pick me up from school and couple times, give me pain killers and get my shoulder popped back in but so far so good. :] But take care everyoen, I have more homework to do :]

12/29/06*Update*- Well. I am feeling very groggy lately. Very fatigued and I haven't felt like doing anything. My left shoulder is still stuck out of socket and I woke up this morning and noticed that 3 of my left ribs were dislocated and seemed as if they were all up under one another. But I have a relationship with God and prayed this morning for him to heal me and around lunch time they popped back in. He does answer prayers.  But that's all for now. Talk to everyone later. I hope everyone has a safe, warm and happy new year.

Update: 12-30-06- Hey everyone. Today I woke up around 12 in the afternoon. Getting a late start on things haha. I tryed to avoid turning on the heating pad last night when going to bed for my shoulder pains because I was just trying to tough it out but after an hour of struggling and trying to stay calm haha I had to turn it on. But thanks to everyone that has forwarded my site. I need all the help that I can get. :) Well got more work to do!-Brittany

January 25, 2007-
Things have been rather awful lately. Waking up with migranes and dislocated shoulders. Yesterday, I went to the Emergency Room in Hanover, Pennsylvania and the doctor just grabbed my arm and yanked it back in without any medicine..and let me tell you it didnt feel pretty. I was up last night about every hour with my mom telling her to help me but I feel bad and I think she does too because we both know there is nothing to do. So anyways, at the Emergency Room my favorite nurses Liz and Lisa came up with a contraption to try and keep my shoulders in socket. They put a clavical brace around my shoulders to keep my posture right and then put on a sling so basically I cannot move my arm. Oh, and ever since the doctor put  my shoulder back in it only feels worse :( so I've just been relaxing and working on my school work and everything. I just want to tell everyone thank you sooo much for donating. It means a lot to me.

Update March 3rd 2007:
Wow! Where to start.
My knees are still giving me a hard time to walk. I did get out of the house today and dressed up for a civil war appreciation day in gettysburg with my uncle mike and aunt tracy. It was A LOT of fun. School has been rough but I am managing to get through. My right shoulder is still out and has been out for 2 1/2 months now so I am learning to deal with the pain and my left has been having its moments. Take care everyone!

To all the donaters:

Thank you soo much. You have no idea what this means to not only me, but my family and everyone else with EDS.
Thanks and God Bless You!

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
