This is my third year participating in Coasting For Kids to raise money for Give Kids The World. Although I will be out of town on the day of the event (June 10, 2012), I am registering as a "virtual rider" because I want to continue helping this wonderful organization. Several of my friends will be marathon-riding the Gemini roller coaster at Cedar Point, so I'll be there in spirit!
As I've said in the past, my interest in Give Kids The World is not only tied to my love of amusement parks, but also first-hand experience with how an illness can impede one's daily life. I see GKTW as a way for kids to get a piece of their childhood back, in a place that accommodates their (and their family's) every need and gives them a break from the stresses of treatments and doctor appointments... all free of charge.
For those who don't know, GKTW is a resort in Kissimmee, Florida, where kids who face life-threatening illnesses can be kids. The resort is welcoming and colorful and adapted for children of all abilities -- and their visit includes tickets to one of the many theme parks in Central Florida! GKTW has made a promise to never turn a child away. For 70 percent of the year however, the Village runs above 100 percent occupancy, meaning some families must lodge off property during their Wish Trip. For this reason, Give Kids The World Village is in the midst of the largest expansion project in its history.
Demand for Central Florida wishes is forecast to increase about six percent each year through 2015. To accommodate this growth the Village will need to expand to approximately 192 villas. Every person you tell about this mission, will help bring GKTW one step closer to achieving this goal.
Donating through this site is simple, fast, and totally secure (and can be made anonymously if you wish). Personal checks can also be made out to "Give Kids The World" and mailed to me. Please also let me know if your employer will match your donation, so I can add it to my total.
I sincerely thank you for your support!
