Bryan Duffy's Fundraising Page
Hello again everyone,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising (and update) page for the 2010 Boston Marathon (hopefully again). It's almost here!!! In a little under 2 weeks I will be making the journey from Hopkinton to Boston for the 3rd consecutive year. This is my 4th overall marathon, and I’m just as excited about this one as I was for the previous 3. Okay, maybe not the very first one, but I’m still very much looking forward to April 19th.
Training has been going much better lately, and even though we've had "some" rain over the past month or so it's been pretty good weather to get out there and get some good runs in. So far, I've run a few 14+ mile runs, finished the Hyannis Half Marathon (in 2:08:08), completed a 17.5 mile run, and on March 28th I did my 20 mile run from BC out to Wellesley College and back. It was definitely a grueling run, but I felt pretty good after even though my toes hurt and hamstrings were a little tighter then normal. Now I'm into the tapering portion of my training, and most of my runs will be much less stressful and much shorter so my body can regain its strength and get ready for April 19th.
Since Boston is the most prestigious and most difficult marathon to get into, having the opportunity to run in this race comes with an added benefit. Running with the John Hancock Team I have the chance to raise money for a very worthy charity, The Fund for Boston Parks & Recreation. The specific cause behind this particular charity is to provide inner-city youths in Boston the opportunity to have a summer job at a corporate organization, where they might not have this kind of chance. My goal is $1,500, which will provide one person a job for the summer, and any additional money I raise will go to another deserving teen in the Boston area.
I know we’re coming out of a pretty severe recession, so anything you can do to support this charity would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to sharing stories from the rest of my training, as well as how the race goes and how I’ll feel after. Enjoy your day, and thank you all in advance for helping out.
