For the past 1.5 years, I have tutored 6th grade math at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences (MAHS), and I am more than pleased to share with you how much I have enjoying volunteering on the Academy Tutoring Project.  

Without question, tutoring at MAHS has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.  The training provided by Literacy Mid-South was top notch and prepared me well for my tutoring sessions.  And both Literacy Mid-South and MAHS have been very supportive--they have afforded me a great deal of flexibility each week as to what day and time I come in to tutor.  I have tutored dozens of 6th graders, often  3-4 students at a time.  Being able to provide extra help and attention to these students really makes a difference, and sometimes just getting the students to practice lots of problems for a solid hour goes a long way.  Often I tutor the same students several times throughout a semester, and there is nothing better than knowing I helped a student raise their math grade from a C to a B.

Please consider making a financial contribution to Literacy Mid-South.  The Academy Tutoring Program is a great success, but they can always use more tutors and more resources.
