Adopt-A-Child ~ Elizabeth
Thirteen year old Elizabeth, a very bright, funny and strong young lady and the youngest of three, was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma (spinal cord tumor) in May 2008. She was treated with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. As a result, she lost use of her right arm and learned how to write with her left hand. Over time, she got worse and in August 2009, she could no longer walk. An MRI showed tumor progression. She is now quadreplegic, has no function below the neck and requires total care.
Having to take care of Elizabeth over the past 1½ years, her parents have lost all their savings and retirement money. Elizabeth can no longer sit up in a car (seat) and requires a wheelchair. The family needs a van with a wheelchair lift to transfer her the vehicle. At this time, they have found a decent used van that the owner is holding and willing to sell them for $5500.
