Dear Friends & Family,
Many of you have heard me talk about Citizen Schools by now (if only to explain why I dropped off the face of the earth in the fall!) and I'm writing to ask for your support of the organization. As you know, we're funded in part through our schools, but the vast majority of funds come from private and public donations. This funding is what allows us to truly integrate our work with middle schools across the country. Our Teaching Fellows work alongside teachers during the school day (observing classes, sharing student info and offering support) and then serve as a "second shift" of educators when 3 o'clock hits. We give students daily academic support (on homework, key concepts from classes, etc.) and partner with incredible volunteers to bring everything from Google computer game creation to Bollywood culture and dance (see picture to the left) to life through 10-week projects called Apprenticeships.
Right now, we're in the middle of our annual fundraising blitz to build an even stronger program next fall. Also, we're competing neck and neck to see who can generate the most visibilty and support through the number of people who donate to our fundraising pages. And so I say to you--give me your Starbucks money, your under- the-couch cushion change, your crumpled $2 from the dryer...anything that you can donate helps our work. I know many of you are working for equally deserving schools and organizations and/or give to many causes already. I hope that this "ask" isn't an imposition and appreciate your support--whether it's cash or karma!
I hope this note finds you happy, healthy and engaged in interesting work.
Much love and respect,
