Help send Caitlin Burnett to Bangladesh!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
As many of you know, I have been selected as a Peace Fellow for summer 2007 with The Advocacy Project. This is a great opportunity to make use of my skills and experience an entirely new setting!
This position will take me to Dhaka, the capitol city of Bangladesh, where I will work with the Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organization (BERDO). Since 1991, the organization has been working for the development and protection of the disabled community in Bangladesh. Founded and run by individuals living with blindness themselves, BERDO’s programs include rehabilitation, building of a Talking Library, scholarships, job placement, health services, and disability prevention.
However, the position is entirely unpaid and both my host organization and The Advocacy Project are unable to defray any of my costs. That's where you can help! Any money that is raised in excess of the costs I will incur will go directly to BERDO to help cover their operating costs.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts and is completely tax deductible since you will be contributing directly to The Advocacy Project, a nonprofit organization formed in 1998 to serve the needs of civil society – particularly community based advocates for peace and human rights. Please visit http://www.advocacynet.org for more information on this great organization.
Thank you for your support -- and please don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Update: The Ithacan, my undergrad paper, ran a piece on the project! Please see The Ithacan Online.
Update 5/23/07: It is hard to believe that in only a week and a half I will be in Bangladesh! Your outpouring of support has absolutely amazed and humbled me. With the support of family, friends, coworkers and classmates, I have raised a significant amount of money! Any money in excess of my costs will now go directly to BERDO to help cover their costs. Please keep giving generously and watch for an update on my soon-to-be-accessible blogging page!
