We did it!
Camp Promise-West took place August 17-23 and it was wonderful.
Check out the video to the left to see what we've been up to and visit camppromise.org for the latest information and photos.
In less than a month, we've raised more than $10,000, located and put down a deposit for a fully-accessible site, recruited 26 volunteer counselors and 28 campers, conducted interviews, created and booked a full activities schedule, designed a logo, printed t-shirts, purchased medical supplies, found a company to come out and fix wheelchairs during camp, planned theme days, purchased dance decorations, booked a DJ, and started planning pranks...
Camp Promise is the brainchild of several families of children with neuromuscular disorders in the New England area who were inspired to hold their own camp in response to a lack of camp options for their children in 2009. A similar group has formed in Washington and we're proud to partner with Camp Promise and call ourselves Camp Promise-West.
Since most of these campers are unable to attend other camps due to accessibility issues, friends, family, and volunteers have partnered with Easter Seals' Camp Stand By Me in Vaughn, Washington, to provide a week of camp for kids with neuromuscular disorders.
Parents have expressed unwavering interest in sending their children to Camp Promise-West, despite the possible threat of H1N1, so funding is now the main obstacle.
Our goal is to raise enough money make Camp Promise-West free-of-charge to any camper who would like to participate.
Campers make wonderful gifts. Or why not sponsor a meal, a night of bunk beds, arts 'n crafts, or one of the camp toilets?
If you email camppromisewest@gmail.com with a specific event/camper/meal you'd like to sponsor, we will send you photos of where your money went and label the item in your honor. $500 for a camper. $120 covers a cabin for a night. $50 for a day of arts 'n crafts. Boating, swimming, archery, a toilet, you name the activity or item and we'll let you know what it'll cost!
We hope that you will help us make Camp Promise West possible for these kids. It is scheduled for the week of August 17th. Thanks to the involvement and support of the Jett Foundation, all of your donations are tax-deductible.
The kids are hopeful, now we just need you. Please make a donation and share this link with everyone you know.
If you have any questions, would like to volunteer, or would like to send your child to Camp Promise, please email camppromisewest@gmail.com
