Hungry For Haiti

HUNGRY FOR HAITI

Campus on a Hill will be hosting a famine/fundraiser called Hungry for Haiti. Every Monday, from April 5 to the end of the semester, we are asking people to give up eating for that day and to donate the equivalent of what they would have spent on food to Haiti relief work. The impetus behind this particular manner of fundraising is our desire that people go beyond giving spare change to those suffering and in need. Every Monday at Ho Plaza from 10am to 3pm and at RPCC from 4pm to 9pm, students will be collecting money. At these tables, there will also be information regarding Haiti and World Vision, as well as information pointing to how to donate online.

This is open to both Christians and non-Christians alike. For the Christian, this is an opportunity to pray through fasting for the nations. For the non-Christian, this is an opportunity to develop a greater and more personal understanding of reaching the underprivileged.

Our vision is to bring Cornell University to a greater awareness and participation in social justice through the engagement in voluntary hunger and the raising of financial support for Haiti. We desire to do this because we believe that those suffering are created in God’s image and are loved by Him, and that we have been put in a position where our own privilege and abundance can, and must, be used to extend that love to them. Through our efforts, we hope to lead and incorporate Ithaca’s university community into living a life of greater selflessness and genuine love.
