RHINO ARK KENYA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION INC

Car 64, 2012

Car 64, 2012

Dear Friends!!!

Thank you for visiting out fundraising page. We are once again participating in the Rhino Charge, an extreme Motor Sports event in the Kenyan Bush, which raises money to protect the most valuable of natural resources such as forests and water towers.

The cause
We do this to support Rhino Ark (and have fun doing so). Rhino Ark's mission is to develop sustainable solutions to the challenges facing mountain forest ecosystems and threatened biodiversity areas, The funds raised support both the endowment fund for the maintenance of the electrified fence around the Aberdare, which has been build over the last 22 years with funds raised through the Rhino Charge, and new fences around Mt. Kenya National Park and blog 22 of the Mau forest.

Both Mt. Kenya and blog 22 of the Mau Forest are like the Aberdares, essential water towers for Kenya and therefore a small part but important part of saving the planet.

These fences are essential in, preserving the remaining forest by helping to stop illegal logging, prevent human/wildlife conflicts, which invariably results in the demise of the wildlife and of course the controlling poaching of some of the most endangered species such as Black Rhino, Elephant and Bongo.

If you want to know more about Rhino Ark please go to www.rhinoark.org

The Event – The Rhino Charge
The Rhino Charge is an extreme 4 x 4 vehicle event somewhere in the Kenyan Bush in which the team has to visit 13 checkpoints in less than 10 hours in whichever order the team deems will give it the best chance of winning. In order to win the team has to cover the shortest distance of all the 65 cars in the charge.

Speed has no place in this event. In order to complete the event in the shortest possible distance and win, the team end up crossing rivers, rocks and impossible obstacles, manhandle their vehicle over ground where no vehicle should go, winch the vehicle up and down shear cliffs, hurdle down slopes where brakes have no effect. You get bruises in places you didn’t imagine possible and certainly never want again but in the end there is no rush like it ☺

If you want to know more about the event itself please visit www.rhinocharge.co.ke

Car 64’s 2012 team
The team in this year’s charge will be the same, which in the 2010 Rhino Charge successfully completed all 13 checkpoints and finished 8th out of the 65 registered entrants (we don’t talk about 2011, a year which no longer exists in the minds of the team). Maybe this year will finally be the year that Car 64 finishes in the top 3.

Like last year the team will consist of:

Suzanne “Raccoon” Lassen: From a military family and having spend time in Afghanistan working with the Aghan National Police. There is no doubt that the boys have to watch out or the world will quickly find out who wears the trousers.

Carey “GPS” Ngini: Windsor knot – if you please. That is Carey in a nutshell but after 4 Rhino Charges the team would be lost without him, literally.

Sean “Wildman” Mathews: What can I say, if you need a knife Sean is your man. An invaluable member of the team who together with his brother can rebuild the car with a piece of string, a knife and a stick of gum.

Hans “The Winch” Herluf Pedersen: This ox of a man would move the car by himself if he was given the chance. However, he realises this is a team sport and allows the rest of the team a chance to feel useful.

Justin “Smart Ass” Mathews: What else do you call a good looking 19 year old with far too much attention from the opposite sex and a mouth in 5th gear (however it seems to be all in the mouth as its invariably his brother who has guest for breakfast)

Peter “The Transporter” Bonde Nielsen: The man who is the blood line of Car 64. A true fighter who will always make the car move. What ever it takes – Peter will find a way.

If you are interested in knowing more about the car or the individual team members please visit www.car64.com

That is the end of our ramble. We hope that you have been inspired to donate generously!! We will do our utmost to make sure that we do better than last year. One year at a time and we will eventually get there.

Thank you,
Team 64

ps. Please do not hesitate to encourage/force your friends, family, co-workers, anyone you know (and even people you dont know) to also donate generously!!!
