Working at Phoenix Children's Hospital, I have had the opportunity be involved in a great organization that has an amazing impact on the lives of children and their families. Everyday is a reminder of how very blessed I am for both my health and my family's health. Everyday is a reminder to be be grateful for the abilitity to talk, walk, RUN, play, eat, problem solve, interact with others, etc.... things that all too often are taken for granted.
These are some of the reasons I have decided to train for the Arizona PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon. I will be running to raise funds for the Phoenix Children's Hospital and Denise, a 6 year old girl who has spent many days and nights at PCH. Below is her story:
When I was born they diagnosed me with prune belly, solitary polycystic kidney; enlarge bladder, clubbed feet, imperforated anus, and multiple abnormalities. PCH has been there for me with all the doctors, nurses, and staff every time I have to go for surgeries. Since I have had to so many that my mom has lost count. Some of the biggest ones are a pull thru that they did two kidney transplants. My 1st kidney the doctors can’t explain whey it twisted after almost a year and got damaged. My 2nd kidney is working really well. It’s been a year this month since I got my transplant. I started dialysis when I was about a year and six months. I had to go back to dialysis during the waiting time for the transplants. I have had multiple urinary track infections. I had a virus with me for the past year. My doctors finally treated it and right now I’m working on my second test to be negative so they can start me on more medicines. I love going to school and spending time with my family. When I’m in the hospital I like to spend time at the playroom, it makes my day’s go faster.
