Please help me raise funds for an organization close to my heart.
Guardian Angel Basset rescue is the largest single breed rescue in the Midwest. Guardian Angel rescues, provides full veterinary care, fosters and hand selects a home for over 300 dogs each year. GABR is more than a dog rescue as we have helped over 50 non-profits learn how to fundraise, run auctions and profit through partnership in our annual Corvette Raffle.
I have had basset hound companions for over 25 years. A year ago I began fostering basset hounds for Guardian Angel. I am now on my 17th foster dog, and I can tell you it is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Opening my home and heart to these wonderful dogs who have lost their owner, may be sick, or have been abused or neglected, watching them recover, learn to trust and love, and then move on to families who will give them a secure and loving home for the rest of their lives, has been a truly heart-touching experience. Each dog has taught me something new about dogs and about myself. It has truly been a spirit-expanding experience.
One of my current fosters, Newton, was rescued by Guardian Angel after being thrown from a pick-up truck. He had a gunshot wound to his hip, was severely underweight, and was positive for heart worm. Guardian Angel took him in, covered the cost for his surgery and heart worm treatment, and he came to my home for evaluation and recuperation before being put up for Adoption. In spite of the hateful things that were done to him, and his illness, he is has an indomitable spirit. He is loving, funny, and an absolutely delightful companion. Completely housebroken, with good manners, he wants only to share his love and be loved. We could learn much from him. Without Guardian Angel, he would not have had a second chance at life. He already has a family waiting to take him as soon as he completes his recuperation period.
I know that without Guardian Angel, many of these dogs would have perished. The need for this rescue is huge. There are many bassets waiting to come into rescue because we do not have enough foster homes to accommodate them.
The Guardian Angel Basset Rescue organization is composed of hardworking, and committed volunteers who are dedicated to helping bassets in need. They pick up, transport, foster, and coordinate services for the hounds we take in. We need to increase our volunteers, and we need to raise money to cover the veterinary services that make these dogs whole again and give them a chance at a new life. Our motto is "It's All About the Dogs", but truly, it is also about the people who adopt them.
The money we raise is not used for salaries. It is used directly to cover the veterinary costs that make it possible for another hound to live; another family to enrich their lives with one of our low-riding, long-eared loving companions.
On Sept. 18th and l9th, 2010, Guardian Angel will hold it's annual Bash and Waddle, a celebration of the basset hound breed attended by over 1,000 bassets and their owners. It is our principal fund raising event.
I know money is tight, but if everyone can give even a little, the impact will be huge.
