Steve Myrick always looked like he did in this picture: smiling and joking.
Stephen Lewis Myrick was born in Columbus, Georgia and he spent his whole life there. He graduated from Baker High School in 1963 and Columbus College in 1979. He was employed by Kinnett Dairies, Hughes Aircraft, and MBIA Panasonic battery. He liked to fish, hunt, play golf, and garden. Steve tended to the Myrick family lawn and garden with utmost care and attention and his flowers, trees, and grass were the envy of the neighborhood!
Steve was also dedicated to his wife Sarah, his daughters Amy and Dana, and his mother Elizabeth. He was a supportive husband, father, and son. He wrote a letter to his younger daughter, Dana, just before her high school graduation saying, "as you enter this time of new and bigger challenges please remember that I love you and will always be there when and if you need help." This sums up not only the kind of father he was but the kind of man he was as well. He left a lasting legacy in the minds of those of us who loved him most. Dana always thinks of him whenever she faces a new challenge, whether it is starting college or graduate school, moving across the country, or running a marathon. In 2003, Amy and Dana ran the Chicago Marathon in memory of their father and raised more than $11,000 for Carcinoid research. In addition, Amy started the first-ever Carcinoid support group in the city of Chicago. His daughters loved him very much!
On June 29, 2001, Steve passed away. We will always miss him and remember him. His voice still reminds us to do the best we possibly can in life. His advice to Dana on her graduation was, " 'Good luck in the future' is something your friends will say to you at graduation; I will say 'you make your own luck and can achieve whatever you set out to do as long as you are persistent.' "
Steve's family encourages everyone to raise awareness of Carcinoid cancer and to donate their time and money toward research to eradicate this awful disease.
