San Diego Rock n' Roll Marathon Running to Find a Cure
On June 5th I will be running in the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. I originally signed up because a friend of mine decided to do the race and wanted some company. Early in the training she bacame injured and it was obvious she would not be able to run the marathon. I decided to continue on with the training but my enthusiasm was gone. In fact I think I was dreading it! A voice in my heart told me I should go anyway. NOW I KNOW WHY. When Leilani told me that San Diego marathon was a fund raiser for Huntington's Disease my excitement was renewed.
Huntington's disease is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that causes brain cells to die, destroying all of a person's physical and mental abilities. Children of a parent with HD have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. Currently there is no cure for this devastating illness.
Leilani is one of my dearest friends. She has been my sounding board for life's up and downs for several years now. She has given me encouragement and support when I needed it the most. She was recently diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. Doing this race as a fund raiser for Huntington's is a chance for me to show my support for her in a circumstance that leaves me feeling helpless. Please help me do what I can to help Leilani and other people who are being affected by this horrible disease.
Thanks for your support.
