¡Hola Amigos!

As you may or may not know, I have been involved with Amigos de las Américas for the past 4 years. Amigos is a nonprofit organization that empowers youth leaders, promotes community development, and works to strengthen understanding while encouraging cultural exchange in the Americas. I am incredibly excited to be working with them for another amazing summer (June-August) in Cusco, Peru! 

I am currently a sophomore English major at Texas A&M University. I spent the summer of 2008 volunteering with Amigos in Paraguay, living in the small (but incredibly big-hearted) community Asentamiento Cristo Redentor. It was an incredibly rewarding experience and I'm looking forward to being a Project Supervisor in Peru as new volunteers discover the life-changing experience that is AMIGOS.

This summer, the 12 AMIGOS projects will build partnerships that seek to change the lives of both the volunteers and community members for the better. For over 40 years, AMIGOS has worked in Latin America on an array of health, education and environmental projects in local communities.I am very excited about the new initiatives that AMIGOS is pursing to involve Latin America.

• $10 Provides seeds for a community garden

• $25 Provides materials and instruction to teach a classroom of children about hygiene and good nutrition

• $50 Improves family nutrition and community reforestation with fruit trees

• $100 Constructs three latrines to improve community health and sanitation

• $250 Provides seeds for family gardens in 20+ communities

• $350 Funds a leadership workshop for U.S. and Latin American youth
