This coming Sunday, September 16th, I am running my second Surftown Half Marathon in Westerly, RI. Like last year, I am running in memory of my father-in-law, Frederick C. Maynard, Jr. - an accomplished, caring, and dedicated man who was taken far too soon 15 years ago as a result of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). This time I will also be running in memory of Dr. Charles Daukas, a great physician and the father of a very good friend, who also suffered from LBD and, after a valiant fight, passed away this past winter.
LBD is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer's disease, affecting 1.3 million individuals in the United States alone. While progress is being made everyday, there is still a very long way to go in generating awareness of LBD and providing patients and their caregivers with better support and treatment options.
Please consider supporting my efforts by making a donation to the The Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA). LBDA is the leading organization in the United States that provides comprehensive information, education and support for the 1.3 million people afflicted by Lewy body dementias. You can learn more about it at http://www.lbda.org. Any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure.
Thank you for your support -- and please forward this e-mail on to anyone you think might also want to donate. Caroline
