Happy 2012! it is that time once again when I start my year off reflecting on all of my blessings from the previous year and then preparing for the upcoming Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Delaware. You might think this is an odd correlation but it makes perfect sense.
You see...one of my biggest blessings in life is my cousin Jacob, who is a Special Olympics athlete. Jacob is 15 years old. My Firstgiving page photo this year is of Jacob. I love that kid's smile! It reminds me of unconditional love. He has overcome more challenges than many of us will ever encounter in a lifetime. Everyday to him is a gift. He is a gift. He inspires me, challenges me and teaches all that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Jacob was born with Cerebral Palsy and has cognitive and physical disabilites. His greatest joy in life is competing in Special Olympics events. it doesn't matter if he wins or loses...only that he made the attempt. This is obvious by his constant and infectious smile everytime he competes. He lights up the world with that smile!
Jacob is able to compete as a result of generous donations from supporters like you. Over 3,500 athletes compete annually as a result of these donations. The joy of competing and satisfaction they receive from Special Olympics programs is incredible.
I hope that you will consider sponsoring me for the 2012 Polar Bear Plunge. As I plunge into the icy Atlantic ocean I will think of Jacob cheering me on from the beach waiting with a warm hug of gratitude as I emerge from the freezing water. I will think of your warm generosity in helping to support the valuable programs offered by Special Olympics enabling athletes to be able to continue to compete. I will remember that in my lifetime diversity & inclusion were realized for all!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Remember to also complete a matching gift request if your employer offers this benefit.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Warm Regards,
Carrie
