Celebrating the birthday of: HOMER BROOKS, SR. HOUND!

Homer Brooks helps Senior Houndsabound

Howllo Fellow Senior Houndsabound &
Homer Brooks' Lovers!

Chaps Rudert proclaims March the 3rd,
Homer Brooks day in Basset Hound Town!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Homer!  Homer was one of the lucky seniors that found the perfect home when his situation was dire, at best. Joni Brooks saw him on my website and thought, "hey that guy can come live with me.  He reminds me of my dearly departed first basset hound named Homer and maybe it's a Christmas mircle! Joni has given Homer II, March 3rd as his birthday, in honor of Homer the 1st.  Please read her memories of her dearly departed Homer right below and know how special this adoption is.

"I first laid eyes on my Homer (joni's Beau Homer Mcgriff) on July 19,1983.  I had never seen a lemon & white basset before and at first wasn't sure he was a basset hound.  It was love at first sight for me but not Homer.  It didn't take long for my boy to bond with me and become my shadow. Homer was born on 3/3/83 and so he was 4 & 1/2 months old when I got him. He was my first ever dog and I fell completely head over heals in love with him and he with me. Every year on his birthday we would have a pawty and I would get him a special cake. He loved hot dogs so he would have them grilled outside to share with his 2 sisters. My poor boy wasn't the healthiest basset ever and found himself at the vets frequently throughout his 10 years with me.  Homer went to the bridge suddenly on July 27,1993. Homer had a heart attack and died in his daddy's arms at the vet. I think it was the saddest day of my life.  I missed Homer so much and got him a person's headstone with his picture on it.  It has his dates of birth/death and reads, "My kind and gentle friend, I will love you always."  The headstone moved with me and is now in N.Y.  Before I got home that day Homer was buried in our backyard by my husband. I never got to say goodbye to him.

When I saw Cat's posting on Roxies about a Sr. basset named Homer in KY last Christmas week I was instantly inspired to ask if I could have him.

Thanks to all you wonderful donors and alot of effort on Cat's part I got my Homer the first Saturday in January 2009..  He walked in the house, looked around and promptly marked the hallway wall. Gizzy (my peke) and him played all that nite and never again since!  I fed Homer and he ate it all and still does. he is not a fussy eater and neither was my first Homer. For the first month, Pally my other peke was less than thrilled. Then one day they started playing chase and the 2 of them play together all the time. Homer is so patient when Pally bites and pulls his ears.  He even lays his head on the floor so Pally can more easily reach him. At times I think it's my first Homer's soul in him because he has alot of mannerisms and behaviors like Homer the first did.  The only issue has been food. As any basset will, Homer wants everybody's food!  I don't know how long I will have my Homer, but I do know that he has completed my family. He brings so much joy and love into my life. If anyone is concerned about adopting a Sr. Hound ...don't be. They are such a joy to have around.

Homer is very concerned about Gabe and all the Sr. Hounds who find themselves homeless like he did. In honor of him and in memory of Homer the first, Homer would like to ask you residents/readers to donate money in his name to Senior Houndabound in Orlando, Fl. I have personally visited the rescue and can tell you it's wonderful. But as with any rescue the expenses can really add up, especially with the Seniors and their medical bills. Wen truly loves her hounds and would appreciate any donations."

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
