Dear Friends and Family,
We have a wonderful 5½-year-old son, Dane. Dane is happy, easy-going, cheerful and loving. He also has a disability. He does not yet talk or walk independently; we do not know if he ever will. There are many kids and adults like Dane in our community who have special needs. These special needs also require special resources, such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, adaptive equipment (for mobility, eating, sitting, toileting-all the things most of us take for granted), and specialized job training. In just five years we have already received tremendous support from UCP. However, Dane will need this type of support for a lifetime, requiring numerous resources, finances, and dedicated staff. UCP relies on the kindness of volunteering and donations of many individuals such as you to sustain their support of individuals in the community with cerebral palsy. Last year, all of us participated in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon for the first time. A great time was had by all. Both Dane and Kiri ran a blistering pace in their Flying Piglet events. Cern completed the fourth leg of the "UCP Swine Dashers" relay team; pictured above in white crossing the finish line. Cindy volunteered at the marathon helping to set-up the finish line area. More importantly, thanks to you, we raised over $5,000 for UCP! Although this year's marathon, to be held on Sunday, May 1st, will be over in a few hours, for those who are disabled, independence can be a lifelong challenge. That's why we support UCP's mission to advance the independence of people with physical disabilities and to enable them to enjoy full inclusion in all aspects of life and areas of society. This year we are again running and volunteering to honor those at UCP, like our son Dane, who attends programs at UCP's Perlman Center. UCP and our family would be so grateful if you would make a donation in whatever amount you can manage. Please note that your donation, payable to United Cerebral Palsy, is fully tax deductible. You will be making such an immediate difference for so many people in our Cincinnati community!
