Team Poulin's Halloween Kidney Walk
Hi everyone!
We (Team Poulin) are walking on October 28th to help make a difference and support kidney programs throughout the state of Maine. That handsome man you see in the photo is Larry (in case you haven't had the pleasure to meet him) and Larry has Kidney Disease. His kidney disease is caused by the body making too much protein and it plugs the kidneys filtering system.
You may think kidney disease is rare, but in fact 1 in 9 Americans have kidney disease. Most are not aware.
People who have high blood pressure or diabetes are two most common causes of kidney failure. Charlene's grandmother passed away from kidney failure related to high blood pressure. Kidney disease is very common.
If someone in your family has kidney disease you are at risk.
In Maine there are Kidney Early Education Programs which are free screenings. I encourage all to get screened.
