James and I have committed to running the Westchester, NY State Half Marathon on Sunday 11th October.  Neither of us have ever done anything so energetic before and are in the process of training for it. 

We are hoping to raise $500 for the Merlin Charity.

Merlin is a global humanitarian organisation concentrating on medical emergencies and health care.  The goal being to build in cooperation with local health ministries sustainable health care systems after natural disaster or conflict. 

Maternal health is a priority right now with a mother dying every minute from pregnancy-related causes.  75% of these lives could be saved if there was access to a trained midwife and emergency obstetric care. Any amount you give will make a difference:

$2 will vaccinate a child against measles

$10 will provide a stethoscope to monitor an unborn child's heartbeat

$150 will feed 5 malnourished children for a month

$200 with provide birthing kits for a community midwife to deliver 10 babies
