New Balance Falmouth Road Race

Dear Family and Friends,

As most of you may know, for the past four summers, I have run the Falmouth Road Race in support of the Genesis Club. I am proud to again announce that I will again be running in support of the Genesis Club this year at the Falmouth Road Race and will be asking for donations that will serve to make a difference for individuals coping with mental illness. I became involved with the club at a young age because Kevin Bradley, the director, is my neighbor and practically my second father. I run the Falmouth Road Race both because I love running and because I have grown up aside Kevin’s passion for his work at the Genesis Club – come January, it seems to be the only thing he is willing to talk about. Kevin has helped me grow as an overall individual and I view the Falmouth Road Race as my way to thank him for all he has done for me. This race has become a major part of my life. Over the years, I have met and become close with many members, even writing my college admissions essay about a fellow Falmouth runner. Although at moments during this race, I seriously question why I put myself through what I call “The Falmouth Death Race,” I know in the end that I am running for a great cause and aiding in the success of the Genesis Club.
Team Genesis is a group of 25 runners “making strides for mental health” in support of the Genesis Club in Worcester, MA. The Genesis Club is one of many clubhouses around the world that provides a variety of support to individuals with mental illness. These services range from assistance with employment and education, health and wellness programs, finding and managing housing, to working side-by-side with the staff to run the organization. I have watched this club help so many people struggling with mental illness and I feel a personal connection to its success as an organization.
This year is a special year, as it marks the 5th year anniversary of team Genesis running Falmouth, as well as my mother joining the team. She has watched not only me, but my father and brother in law compete in this race and it was not until this year that she decided it was time to put the camera down and run for herself. I could not be more thrilled to have her on the team. Her joining of Team Genesis will mark not only the first mother-daughter team, but also the first grandmother of the team.
Each summer, I have been able to raise close to $1,000 in support of the Genesis Club. This year, my Mom and I together hope to raise $1,500. Please take some thought in donating to this cause because truly every penny counts. All of the money will go to the Genesis Wellness program. We thank you all immensely for your support and encourage you to forward this along to anyone you think may be interested in helping our cause.
