The Democratic Republic of Congo is ravaged by ethnic violence. Over 4 million people have died and an estimated 400,000 people have fled their home.

HEAL Africa is a Congolese non-profit medical organization specializing in caring for women who have been rape victims. Their hospital offers obstetric fistula repair and rehabilitation (fistula is a debilitating condition brought on by violent sexual assault). Heal Africa also provides safe housing for victims and their families, income generating grants and activities, vocational training, literacy programs, HIV/AIDS education, counseling, community reconciliation, peace building. My role will be to serve as a development project coordinator and organizational liaison.
