Welcome and thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page!
My team’s goal:
¨ To climb Mount Old Rag in the Shenandoah National Park, VA on June 19, 2010 (rain date June 20, 2010) to raise $5000 and awareness for curing Duchenne muscular dystrophy
¨ Every dollar is welcome and will make a real difference.
Cause:
¨ Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the #1 childhood genetic disease that strikes about 1 in 3,500 boys.
¨ A gene called dystrophin, necessary for the development of adult musculature, malfunctions.
¨ The disease is diagnosed as toddlers or pre-schoolers fall behind their peers in their abilities to stand, walk, run and jump, and the boys are typically wheelchair-bound by age 12.
¨ The disease is 100% fatal, as the boys’ respiratory and/or cardiac muscles start to fail starting in their late teens and early 20's.
Origin:
¨ I first learned about Duchenne muscular dystrophy when my dad’s biotech company in Strasbourg, France was working on a potential medicine for this disease.
¨ This is a particularly anxious and hopeful time, because several experimental medicines are working their way through clinical trials!
Proceeds go to:
¨ Venture philanthropies such as CureDuchenne, that quickly, efficiently and effectively match funds with promising therapeutic approaches, are clearly accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into medicines that can help patients.
Ø The money you contribute will have a very REAL and TIMELY impact on THIS generation of Duchenne boys.
Click the "Sponsor Me Now" button at the top or bottom of this page to charge your donation, or if you have contributed an offline donation, please email me the amount at strasbourggirl@gmail.com in order for it to be counted on the running total on this web page.
Thank you very much for your support, and please email me if you have any questions!
P.S. - Please forward this site address to anyone you think might want to know about this simple, clear, focused opportunity to make a REAL difference in THIS and FUTURE generations of Duchenne boys!
Sincerely,
Chiara Kay Seoh
