TODAYS TREASURES RESCUE AND ADOPTION INC

Rosie, the Corgi

Rosie, the Corgi

Rosie is a joyful, little corgi girl who is just 18 months old.  She greets everyone with a wag of the tail and the more people & animals she meets, the more her tail wags.  She is in foster care with Today's Treasures Rescue and Adoption (TTRA) - an all breed 501(c)3 nonprofit group. This is a small, grassroots rescue with five active volunteers who rely upon donations and adoption fees to make ends meet.

Rosie needs YOUR help!

TTRA rescued Rosie just 5 weeks ago and she was the picture of health. Two weeks ago, she started favoring her right rear leg and her foster mom assumed she strained a muscle playing with her doggie friend, Sunny. Even with restricted activity, Rosie continued to hold her leg up. So, we took her to our vet yesterday and got some shocking news. She has a broken femur head!

The specialist, Dr. Milton, said Rosie seems to have a growth plate near the femoral head area that failed to close. It's possible the break in the bone was there all along and never showed symptoms until she got a playmate. He said a break at Rosie's age is not typical and may not respond to typical treatments. But if anyone can fix Rosie's leg, it's Dr. Milton. She's in the best hands possible.

Rosie is undergoing surgery right now to put pins through the break to stabilize it. However, if Dr. Milton gets in there and sees the break is more severe than shows up on X ray, he'll do an FHO. FHO is the abbreviated term for Fermoral Head Ostectomy. It's where the vet cuts off the femoral head which is useless by the break anyway. The muscles of the dog eventually grow stronger to stabilize the leg. In the end, the leg is usable, full weight bearing and will not have the long term affect of arthritis that often comes with a break. The good news is Rosie is going to be fine!

However, TTRA does not have the money to pay for the surgery which is estimated at $1200-$1500. A deposit was put down and that took all the money in the bank account. The rescue group took a leap of faith hoping to be able to count on the support of other dog lovers to raise the rest of the cost of Rosie's surgery.

Anything you can contribute will be most appreciated.
