Christine Doherty's Fundraising Page
Dear Friends,
On Sunday, October 25th, I will be taking part in the 14th Annual Walk and Candlelight Vigil for the Melrose Alliance Against Violence. The purpose of this walk is to honor victims of domestic violence and raise awareness and funds for MAAV's prevention programs.
Since 1997, MAAV has worked with the Melrose Public Schools to implement a 6-session teen dating violence prevention program titled “Healthy Relationships” for 8th grade students. Co-led by MAAV and middle school staff, the program is taught during health classes. The purpose of the violence prevention program is to help young people learn to recognize and avoid abusive relationships, to become more aware of attitudes and actions that are part of healthy, respectful relationships, and to seek help if needed.
Having worked for MAAV, I am familiar with the data from the Healthy Relationships Program. Because of this program, over 90% of the students could recognize a healthy relationship after taking just 6 sessions in heath class. Clearly, MAAV is having a tremendous positive impact on the children in the Melrose Community.
My husband and I are raising three very bright, beautiful and spirited girls, and I am so grateful MAAV is here to help us teach our girls about teen dating violence, and about what a healthy relationship is! I hope you will give to MAAV. It is a great organization!!
Thank You,
Christine
