Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
My story begins 15 years ago when my Mom was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease. At that time, none of us had ever heard of the disease and could never have imagined the impact it would have on our lives. After her diagnosis, my Mom endured two brain surgeries for aneurysyms on both sides of her brain relating to the PKD. After years of decreasing kidney function, she went on dialysis for a short time before receiving a new kidney almost 8 years ago from a family member whose life was cut short at the age of 38. The kidney transplant saved my Mom's life, but unfortunately, because of her decreased immune system, she has had many infections, and is now battling terminal cancer.
I have watched my Mom battle this disease (and her cancer diagnosis) with her head held high, never feeling sorry for herself, and always having a positive attitude. After I too was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 25, and my sister not long after, I vowed to try and do the same thing.
For the second year in a row, I will be running the NYC Marathon to support this cause that is so near and dear to my heart. I believe we are coming closer to a cure, or at least a treatment for the disease. I need to keep pushing so that my children will not have to live with the effects of this terrible disease, and so that they can have their Mom healthy and strong for years to come. As I cross the finish line on November 4th, I will be thanking God that I was able to be a part of making that happen.
I have PKD, but PKD doesn't have me!!
Thank you all for your continued support...it means the world to me and my family!
