I am riding in loving memory of my daughter Emma who would be 13 years old now.  Emma died 8 years ago at the age of five and a half after living with a brain tumor for 15 months.  She was a beautiful and graceful girl,  a remarkably resilient child.  

I learned about Jack's Magic Beans through my good friend Caryn (pictured with the blue and green shirt with me in the center and my pal Erica).   Caryn lost her beloved daughter Cecilia two years ago to cancer.   As I heard from Caryn more about what Jack's Magic Beans was all about, I was moved to help in some way.  

This organization's goal is simple- to positively impact the lives of families dealing with pediatric cancer.  Jack's Magic Beans is open to having that impact in a variety of hands-on ways.  Monies raised in this ride may help bring non-traditional therapies like massage or tapping to children in treatment (to help keep the kids calm and manage their anxiety),  they may fund a study trying to find new ways to target cancer cells (like the one run by Emma's devoted Dr. Klemment), or they may sponsor a grieving family at Camp Sunshine.  The choices are varied but the goal is the same,  to bring some peace and support to families rocked by pediatric cancer.  

My life is forever changed by Emma's journey.  I learned much from my girl, not the least of which was the importance of holding onto your sense of self and the things in life that make you happy even when grappling with heartbreak and a cruel disease.   Emma did that, somehow she knew how, and I believe that in very real ways this ride and the money it raises will help others do the same.   That is why I ride and I would appreciate your help if you are able.
